A patio price per square foot is meaningful only when bidders describe the same site preparation, slab design, finish, and surrounding work. Begin with a measured plan and the intended use.

Price evidence and its limits

Angi’s concrete-patio guide, updated July 8, 2026 and checked September 7, lists $1,919–$5,393 in its installation cost summary. That is a secondary consumer-guide estimate across patio sizes and finish types, not a price for a specified slab. Its other tables use different assumptions, so no per-foot total is extrapolated here. Get a price for your measured design, preparation, and finish.

Define the work in the quote

Site and drainage

Mark the patio dimensions, elevations, access route, and proposed drainage destination. Request separate prices for demolition, excavation, unsuitable material removal, and disposal.

Slab specification

Ask the contractor to state the base preparation, slab thickness, reinforcement where specified, joint layout, and finish. The design should reflect the site and intended loads rather than an unspecified standard slab.

Completion

Include steps, borders, sealing if selected, landscape repairs, and access restrictions during curing. Ask how additional excavation or base material will be measured and approved.

Agree on the finished dimensions and surface

Have the proposal show the patio outline, elevations, steps, drainage direction, joints, and finish selection. Ask whether the quoted area includes an adjoining path or only the main slab. Decorative samples help define appearance, but the contract also needs preparation and completion requirements. Settle who moves furniture, protects adjacent surfaces, removes forms, and restores disturbed soil.

The key question before authorizing work

Ask: Does the per-square-foot rate include demolition, base work, drainage details, joints, and the selected finish?
