A disposal replacement quote should identify the new unit and any changes needed beneath the sink. A retail unit price does not include installation, connection adjustments, or removal of the old appliance.

Price evidence and its limits

HomeGuide’s cost guide, dated April 5, 2023, lists $200–$550 to replace a disposal using existing connections and $250–$650 for a new retrofit. These are the publisher’s U.S. consumer-guide estimates, checked September 7, 2026; they are not local bids or a price survey conducted by this site. The source date is not the date every underlying project was priced. These April 2023 figures are historical context and have not been inflation-adjusted. They are not evidence of a current local labor rate.

Define the work in the quote

Unit and fit

Specify the model, mounting arrangement, cabinet clearance, and control method. Ask whether the existing mount and sink flange will be reused or replaced.

Connections

Include drain alignment, dishwasher connection if present, and electrical connection work. Have shutoff, sink, or drain repairs identified separately if they are not part of the replacement.

Completion

Ask for leak and operating checks, old-unit disposal, and warranty terms. Confirm how labor coverage differs when supplying your own unit.

A new location needs more than the disposal

Ask whether the price assumes an existing compatible mount, drain arrangement, and electrical connection. A first-time installation can require work that a replacement package excludes. Confirm dishwasher connection work if applicable and whether a switch or power component is included. Before owner-purchasing a unit, agree on model fit and who handles a defective product or a second visit.

The key question before authorizing work

Ask: Does this price include the unit, all necessary connection adjustments, testing, and disposal?
