Orange, MA Electrical Permit Fees: $80 for a Major Appliance
Read Orange, Massachusetts’s 2026 electrical fee schedule for a major appliance, added appliances, service work, and branch circuits.
Orange, Massachusetts’s 2026 fee schedule lists $80 for the first major appliance and $50 for each additional major appliance on a residential electrical permit. That fee is the town filing line for the electrical work; it is separate from the appliance, circuit installation, electrician labor, and any utility or inspection work. Open Orange’s 2026 fee schedule. The town homepage identifies Orange as a Massachusetts municipality; verify the local permitting office here.
Use the right line for the job
For one major appliance, the listed fee is $80. For two, the schedule arithmetic is $80 + $50 = $130. Three are $80 + (2 × $50) = $180. The first-appliance line is therefore the anchor; each additional appliance is $50 under the same permit schedule.
Orange lists separate lines that can change the comparison. A residential service of 200 amps or less is $100 for the first meter plus $50 for each additional meter. A panel or meter-socket replacement is $75 each, while a branch circuit is $75. A project involving an appliance may therefore need a branch circuit or service work in addition to the appliance line. Do not add those automatically; ask which items the contractor is filing.
The schedule also lists a residential water heater at $90 and gas work at $90 plus $15 per fixture. Those are distinct lines from the $80 major-appliance entry. The schedule names ranges, ovens, cooktops, dryers, water heaters, disposals, dishwashers, and oil burners under its appliance entries; the permit application and the town’s interpretation still control how a particular project is filed.
Separate filing fee from installation
The $80 or $130 calculation says nothing about a new 240-volt circuit, conduit length, panel capacity, disconnect, gas connection, cabinetry, delivery, or appliance labor. A quote that includes an electrical permit should identify the major-appliance count and any separate service, panel, socket, or branch-circuit line.
The fee schedule is local and dated 2026. Before signing, ask the licensed electrician for the permit category, number of meters or appliances, inspection arrangements, and the town fee receipt. If the project changes service size or replaces a panel, the major-appliance calculation alone will understate the permit portion.
For the narrow major-appliance line, one appliance starts at $80, two at $130, and three at $180. Use those as a check against the permit portion of an Orange quote, then match every additional charge to an actual electrical scope.
