Toyota Key Fob Replacement Cost: OEM Parts and Programming

Compare published Toyota dealer and mobile locksmith ranges, including the OEM fob, programming, cutting, and all-keys-lost add-ons.

By How we research prices

Tim’s Locksmith in Ventura County publishes Toyota key jobs at $280–$430 through a dealer including programming and $150–$280 programmed on site. A separate DFW locksmith publishes a typical dealer total of $730–$1,450 when towing, dealer programming, OEM smart-key parts, and cutting are itemized, versus $245–$575 for its mobile service. These are provider examples, not a Toyota national price. Tim’s comparison and Not Your Basic Locksmith’s DFW breakdown show why location and all-keys-lost scope matter.

Toyota job Published route Price
Routine replacement, Ventura County Dealer incl. programming $280–$430
Routine replacement, Ventura County Mobile locksmith programmed $150–$280
DFW smart-key breakdown Dealer with tow/program/cut $730–$1,450
DFW smart-key breakdown Mobile service $245–$575

The DFW page’s range difference is $1,450 - $575 = $875, but the routes include different line items and a possible tow. It cannot be treated as guaranteed savings.

Ask for the same key job

Toyota’s OEM smart key, remote buttons, emergency blade, cutting, immobilizer or smart-key ECU programming, and lost-key deactivation are different lines. Give the provider the year, model, trim, VIN, number of working keys, and whether the car starts. A shell or used fob is not equivalent to an OEM programmed key.

The Ventura mobile range is useful for a routine replacement with a working vehicle. The DFW breakdown covers a more expensive all-keys-lost scenario and a tow line. Compare like with like, then ask about warranty, proof of ownership, and whether the provider can program the exact Toyota system.
