Gutter Replacement Cost: Measured Runs, Downspouts, and Discharge

Compare gutter replacement costs using measured runs, downspouts, and discharge arrangements. Check the complete system rather than roof-edge length alone.

A gutter quote needs more than the total length along the roof edge. Corners, downspouts, building height, and the condition of the mounting surface should be visible in the scope.

Price evidence and its limits

HomeGuide’s cost guide, dated October 28, 2025, lists $12–$25 per linear foot, including installation labor and material, for its general gutter-installation estimate. These are the publisher’s U.S. consumer-guide estimates, checked September 7, 2026; they are not local bids or a price survey conducted by this site. The source date is not the date every underlying project was priced. Do not use that range for every premium metal, downspout configuration, or fascia-repair project. Ask whether removal and discharge extensions are included.

Define the work in the quote

Layout

Request measured runs, gutter profile and material, downspout locations, and discharge arrangements. Include extensions or underground connections only where they are actually part of the proposal.

Mounting and repairs

Specify removal of the old system, hanger details, and treatment of fascia or other damaged mounting surfaces. Ask how concealed damage will be documented and priced.

Options and completion

Price guards separately from the gutter system. Include access equipment, cleanup, disposal, and a check of the installed drainage route; read maintenance and warranty exclusions.

Count downspouts as well as roof edges

Measure each gutter run and identify downspout locations, outlet directions, corners, and height or access constraints. A linear-foot total can leave discharge arrangements unclear. Ask whether fascia repairs, gutter guards, removal, and connecting to underground drainage are included or separate. Require the installer to explain how the proposed system handles water away from the building at each discharge point.

The key question before authorizing work

Ask: Which downspouts, outlets, fascia repairs, and discharge connections are included alongside the measured gutter length?
