Winter Tire Swap and Storage Cost: Connecticut and U.S. Menus
Compare a Hartford-area tire-storage offer with a posted mobile swap-and-storage package and keep mounted wheels separate from loose tires.
Winter tire pricing depends on whether the tires are already mounted on a second set of wheels. Country Auto Care and Tire Center in Windsor, Connecticut, which serves the Hartford area, posts $50 per set of four per season for most sizes. Its page says the storage facility is insulated, and that it does not charge to install tires when they are mounted on rims. Country Auto Care’s seasonal-storage page therefore supplies a $50 storage line and a $0 mounted-wheel installation line, subject to its “most sizes” qualification.
ET Express Tire Mobile posts a different bundled offer: $200 for four tires plus $60 storage for six months, for a displayed $260 seasonal total. It says the swap occurs at the customer’s home or workplace and that the provider cleans, labels, and stores the off-season set. ET Express’s mobile-services page also lists new-tire installation at $30–$40 per tire, but that is a different job from swapping a pre-mounted winter wheel set.
The two posted offers
| Provider | Swap/install line | Storage line | Displayed seasonal math |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country Auto Care, Windsor CT | $0 when tires are mounted on rims | $50/set of four/season for most sizes | $0 + $50 = $50 |
| ET Express Tire Mobile | $200 for four tires | $60 for six months | $200 + $60 = $260 |
The displayed difference is $260 − $50 = $210, but it is not a like-for-like Hartford quote. Country Auto Care’s offer is a shop storage program with free installation for mounted tires; ET Express is a mobile swap plus storage package, and its page does not state a Connecticut service location. The comparison shows the value of asking whether “swap” means wheel changeover, loose-tire mounting, travel, or all three.
Confirm the wheel setup
Tell the shop whether winter tires are mounted on separate wheels or must be removed from the summer wheels. For loose tires, ask about mounting, balancing, valve stems, TPMS relearn, and disposal. For mounted wheels, ask whether the swap includes torque and pressure checks and whether the provider stores the wheels with the tires. Add tax, oversized-wheel charges, and any pickup/delivery fee to the written estimate.
For a Hartford-area owner, Country Auto Care is the geographically relevant price lead; call to confirm capacity, size eligibility, and the next seasonal retrieval date. ET Express is a U.S. mobile benchmark with a clearly posted package, not evidence of Connecticut pricing. Both pages can change, so save the terms and refresh them before the fall appointment.
