A replacement door bid needs the opening dimensions and the complete door system. Panel appearance alone is not enough to compare a door supply order with a finished installation.
Price evidence and its limits
HomeGuide’s cost guide, dated July 10, 2025, lists $700–$2,700 installed for a single garage door and $1,000–$3,500 for a double door. These are the publisher’s U.S. consumer-guide estimates, checked September 7, 2026; they are not local bids or a price survey conducted by this site. The source date is not the date every underlying project was priced. The guide excludes optional items such as an opener from its main total. Confirm the door specification and opening condition before comparing.
Define the work in the quote
Door specification
Identify size, construction, finish, glazing, insulation if selected, and any location-specific performance requirements. Ask for the exact manufacturer and product series.
Hardware and compatibility
State whether tracks, springs, rollers, seals, and other hardware are replaced. If reusing the opener, ask the installer to confirm compatibility and include adjustment and testing.
Opening and removal
List old-door removal, disposal, trim work, opening repairs, and any electrical work. Separate repairs to surrounding framing from the door installation itself.
Define the complete opening package
Specify the door dimensions, sections, tracks, springs, hardware, seals, finish, and any window configuration. Ask whether the existing opener is compatible and whether reconnecting it is included. Distinguish door replacement from repairing jambs, framing, or the opening. The completed scope should describe cleanup and operational checks, not stop with delivery of the door panels.
The key question before authorizing work
Ask: Does the installed total include the complete hardware system, disposal, and any work needed around the opening?
