A spring-replacement quote should describe the door and the spring system, not just a price for one spring. Ask for the diagnosis and complete service scope before authorizing related hardware replacement.
Price evidence and its limits
HomeGuide’s cost guide, dated October 27, 2025, lists $150–$350 for torsion spring replacement and $120–$200 for extension spring replacement, including material and replacement labor. These are the publisher’s U.S. consumer-guide estimates, checked September 7, 2026; they are not local bids or a price survey conducted by this site. The source date is not the date every underlying project was priced. The table distinguishes spring replacement from a spring-and-cable job or a system conversion. It does not establish an emergency-service price or the correct parts for your door.
Define the work in the quote
System identification
Request the number and type of springs being replaced and the reason for the selected replacements. Ask how the installer will match the springs to the door.
Related hardware
Have cables, bearings, rollers, and brackets inspected and any recommended work listed separately. A bundled hardware package should identify what is included and why.
Service and warranty
Separate dispatch charges from parts and labor. Include door balance and operating checks, cleanup, and the written warranty; ask whether warranty service has a separate call-out charge.
Use the door specification rather than a spring count
Ask the service provider to match the replacement to the door and identify the proposed spring arrangement and warranty. A per-spring advertisement does not establish the total for a functioning door. Have related cable or bearing work separately explained. Have a qualified service provider handle spring adjustment and replacement; request an operational and safety check at completion.
The key question before authorizing work
Ask: Which springs and related parts are included, why are they needed, and what post-repair checks will be documented?
